Dolores Ann "Dee" Hack, born on September 22, 1946, in
Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the age of 78. Dee was a long-time resident of
McMechen, WV, having lived there with her husband Jack for nearly 27 years before his passing and her move to Glen Dale, WV to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Dee was a cherished daughter to Cecilia Ann (Hodgekiss) Williams and her stepfather Raymond Williams, both of whom preceded her in death. She shared a deep bond with her late husband, John Melvin "Jack" Hack, whom she joined in eternal rest, now forcing him to share his cloud with her as she would have joked. Dee grew up in East Wheeling alongside her uncle Paul Hodgekiss, who preceded her in death just over a month ago.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Dee found solace and strength in her beliefs throughout her life. Professionally, she dedicated herself to serving others, working at Stone & Thomas Department Store in downtown Wheeling and later as a cafeteria worker at her alma mater, Wheeling Central Catholic High School. She loved interacting and joking around with CCHS students and faculty. Her warm smile and kind nature were felt by all who crossed her path.
In her personal life, Dee was an avid bowler, spending countless joyful hours at the lanes and on road trips to various tournaments with her team. A passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, she never missed a chance to cheer on her team and "her boy", Sidney Crosby. She also wouldn't pass up an invite to go play the slots, a pastime she enjoyed with her husband. Her enthusiasm for the things she enjoyed was infectious, and she shared it generously with friends and family.
Dee is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Ann Henderson, and son-in-law, Nathan, of Glen Dale, WV. Her sister and personal hairdresser, Jean Themelaras of Elm Grove, WV, and her brother, Robert "Bob" Hodgekiss, along with his wife Janet, of Shadyside, OH, will forever cherish her memory. Her Aunt, Amy Hodgekiss of Warwood, WV, uncles, Willard Hodgekiss of Shadyside, OH, and Maurice "Moe" Hodgekiss of
Wheeling, WV, as well as her cousins remember her fondly. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Robert "Butch" Hack, and his wife Sue of Warwood, WV.
Dee's life was enriched by her close friendships with Sylvia Szerszen and Barb Safreed, who stood by her side through life's many seasons. Her nieces and nephews were especially dear to her and they will fondly remember cherished moments with "Aunt Dee Dee". Her feline companion, Frankie, must also be mentioned as he was a constant source of joy and comfort to her.
Dee's spirit of humor, unwavering love, and joyful laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and warmth will continue to inspire and guide those she leaves behind.
Friends will be received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street,
Wheeling, WV, on Friday March 14, 2025, from Noon until time of service at 2 pm, with Rev. Dennis Schuelkens officiating.
