Dolores M. (Engel) Phelps, 98, of Evansville, went to be with the lord on Friday, August 29, 2025 surrounded by her family. Dolores was born June 15, 1927 in Evansville to the late Gertrude (Pendley) and William Engel.

Delores worked as a registered nurse in varies areas of nursing before retiring from the Evansville State Hospital in 1992. She was a 1945 graduate of the Immaculate Conception Academy in Ferdinand, Indiana and a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Evansville in 1950.

Dolores is survived by her sister, Suzanne (Engel) Knight; sons, Robert E. (Nancy) Phelps, Jr., John F. (Laura) Phelps, Joseph W. (Cherri) Phelps and Michael G. Phelps; daughters, Beatta "Bea" (William Gentry) Guth and Laya Phelps; grandchildren, Jaci (Cory) Seaton, Jordan (Jenna) Phelps, Allie (Adam) Ricketts, Zachary (Bayleigh) Phelps, Tyler Phelps and Jeanine Phelps; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert E. Phelps, Sr. in 2015, and her sister, Marilyn Rose (Engel) Crabtree.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 418 N. Wabash Ave., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father Christopher Droste officiating.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Parish – St. Boniface Catholic Church, 1600 Glendale Ave., Evansville, IN 47712.
