Domingo "Sunday" R. Quintela Jr. went to his heavenly home peacefully at Baycrest Memory Care on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, after spending the morning listening to the divine mercy chaplet with his wife Virgnia and children by his side. Domingo was born in Ft. Stockton, Texas on September 1, 1944, to Domingo Quintela, Sr. and Elena (Ramos) Quintela. He was 79 years old.
Domingo attended schools in Ft. Stockton and was involved in football and FFA. He later married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Virginia Ramirez in August of 1962. They were married for 61 years. They lived in Monahans, Arizona, Midland, Snyder and later retired in San Angelo, Texas. Domingo worked for Mobil Pipeline for 28 years. He spent 18 months in Saudi Arabia during his career at Mobil. Domingo enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, working on Mustang cars, cooking, and hanging out with his family and friends. He was a master carpenter who built his own home in Midland and two others in San Angelo. Domingo also loved to serve other people and never met a stranger. To be Domingo's friend was to definitely have a friend for life and probably a fun nickname as well. He served as a Knight of Columbus and volunteered at Meals for the Elderly. He enjoyed having breakfast or lunch with his buddies and watching college and NFL football with his wife and family. He helped coach and lead several of his children's activities as well as being one of the biggest fans of his grandkids at all of their events. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were one of his greatest joys.
Domingo is survived by his wife, Virginia, and his children, Sharon Maldonado (Teo) of Corpus Christi, Debra Melott (James) of San Angelo, Thomas Quintela (Rosie) of San Angelo, and Christy Smith (Ben) of Snyder, Texas, his grandchildren: Brittany Cibrian (Pete) of Corpus Christi, Corbin Smith (Ashley) of Snyder, Kaitlin Silvas (Derrick) of Refugio, Mallory Khantharasy (Dylan) of San Angelo, Nick Melott (Brooke) of Des Moines, Hannah Orwick (Brayden) of Burleson and Cheyenne Quintela of Austin, his great-grandchildren: Luke, Jordan, Ramses, Aiden, Gavin, Aubrey, and Milo, and his siblings: Socorro Olivas of Monahans and Ofelia Talavera of Cleburne. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Elena Quintela and sisters Cruz White and Senaida Smith.
The Quintela family would like to thank the staff at Baycrest and Angels Care Hospice for their kind and loving care.
A rosary vigil will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, September 14th at Harper Funeral Home. A celebration mass and commendation of ashes at Holy Angels Catholic Church at 10:30am on Friday, September 15th.
