Domingo “Sunday” Vega, age 66, of South Bend, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Sunday was born August 13, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Martin Sr. and Julia (Garcia) Vega. As a young man, Sunday joined the Boy Scouts. He graduated from Detroit Northeast High School and later worked as an assembler with Curtis Products.
Sunday will be remembered as a man who loved spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed spending time fishing, dancing, and visiting casinos. He also loved hosting yard sales and could often be found grilling or barbecuing for family and friends. His faith was strong, and he faithfully attended St. Anthony Catholic Church in Detroit and St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in South Bend.
He is survived by his children, Dennis Vega and Veronica “Toddie” Vega, both of California; his siblings, Victoria Backus of Detroit, Michigan, Amparo Tamyo of Houston, Texas, Carmen Vega of Detroit, Michigan, Francisco Vega of North Carolina, Virginia Vega of Detroit, Michigan, and Santiago Vega of South Bend. He also leaves behind his “adopted granddaughter,” Malia, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sibling, Virginia, his brother, Martin “Pato” Vega Jr., and his sister, Julie Vega.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church on Friday, April 11, 2025. For those unable to attend, a livestream of his service will begin just before the Mass in the window below.
