Neal Richard Janke, known to some of his friends as "Sarge" and as "Bumpa" to his beloved granddaughters, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in South Bend Indiana, surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old.

Born on May 2, 1941, in Eau Claire, Michigan, Neal was the son of Reinhold and Lydia Janke. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1964 to 1969.

A lifelong trucker, Neal loved life on the road, but his heart was always with the simple joys of home. He had a passion for collecting and restoring antique tractors and attending tractor shows, enjoyed tending to his garden, and found joy in daily morning coffee visits with his dear friends. Above all, Neal cherished spending time with his family.

He is survived by his two daughters, Nicole Rosen and Michelle (Ben) Tomchak; his granddaughters, Danielle (Jonathan) Bartkowiak and Paige Tomchak (Pat Boudreaux); his brother-in-law, Andy Robinson; several nieces, his dear friend, Dewey Thompson and his beloved kitty Boots.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Lydia Janke; his brother Eldon Janke and sister in-law Kay Janke; and his sister Evelyn Robinson.

In accordance with Neal's wishes, no public funeral services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawka, IN 46545 and or the Center for Hospice/Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
