McDougal Funeral HomeDon Udell Bennion, age 88, of South Jordan, Utah passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Orlyn Udell Bennion and Mary Thelma Bawden. He married Marlene Jones in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1958. They raised their family in Granger, Utah (now West Valley City) and later moved to South Jordan, Utah.
He excelled in playing the saxophone, singing, fishing, and being a leader.
He graduated from Cyprus High School and the University of Utah.
He had a career as an electrical engineer at Hercules, established a business to develop and market his own inventions, and worked as a programmer for Hill Air Force Base. He shared his love for fishing with his sons. He served faithfully in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop twice and as Stake President. He and Marlene served together on missions to Sri Lanka and Nauvoo, Illinois.
Don is survived by his wife Marlene Bennion; nine children: Doneen (Dave) Simpson, David (Linette) Bennion, Julie (Robert) Mills. Gregory (Heather) Bennion, Patti (Jim) Vance, Pamela Musselman, Jeffery (Angela) Bennion, Quinton (Debbie) Bennion, Bradley (Angie) Bennion and siblings Dixie Jones, LaVel Covington, and brothers-in-law Jim Jones and Larry Covington. He has 49 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents Orlyn Udell Bennion and Mary Thelma Bennion, sister Kay Wixom, son Russell Udell Bennion, and grandson Steven Daniel Simpson.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 6-8 pm at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, and November 22, 2025, from 9 - 10:30 am followed by the funeral at 11:00 am at the LDS Stake Center, 9894 South 2700 West, South Jordan, Utah.
