James Pohlman Obituary

Visit the Myers Mortuary & Cremation Services - Layton website to view the full obituary.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving, compassionate, generous, and supportive soul, James Lee Pohlman, known to many as Jim. He was born on December 2, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served a 2-year mission in Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was then drafted into the Army's 196th Infantry Brigade, where he served for 2 years in Vietnam. James enriched every life he touched during his remarkable 82 years. He was a beacon of kindness, spreading light and warmth wherever he went.

A lifelong resident of Utah, James held a successful career as a computer programmer with the Department of Defense before retiring. His intellectual curiosity was evident in his educational achievements, having earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah. James' passion extended beyond his profession. He was an avid sports enthusiast, a committed journal writer, a family historian, and a devoted ministering servant in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His roles in the church were as diverse as his interests, yet his heart always held a special place for his family. On November 21, 1969, he was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Marsha Ann Thomas, in the Salt Lake City, Utah, Temple. He found his greatest joy in the company of his wife; siblings, Steve (Susan) and Dorothy Marsh (Ralph;, and his children, Bruce, Nathan (Rodgen), Julie Weir (Mike), and Mark (Kellie); 14 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. The love and unity that James fostered in his family are a testament to his character.

The scriptures remind us, "Charity never faileth" (1 Corinthians 13:8). He was a man who lived his faith, showing kindness to all and serving in numerous church callings. He was the embodiment of charity, his life a testament to the power of faith, love, and service.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Hyrum and Elva Pohlman; and siblings, Arlene Hammond, Carol Harkness, and Hyrum Jr.

His life and legacy will be honored during a public viewing on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.

A viewing will also take place prior to funeral services on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Clearfield 4th Ward, 838 East 600 South, Clearfield, Utah. The funeral service will commence at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah.

We invite you to share your memories of James and upload photos to his memorial page. Your stories and images will serve as a beautiful testament to the life and legacy of a man who meant so much to many. Services under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Layton. www.myers-mortuary.com
