Don "Lee" Devey of Alpine, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him.
Lee was born on December 15, 1949, in American Fork, Utah, to Don Earl Devey and Lorna Jewel Bateman. He was raised in Alpine and graduated from American Fork High School. He went on to attend Utah Trade Tech, where he earned a degree in diesel mechanics.
Lee married Pamela J. Wagner, and together they had three beautiful children: Steven, Stephanie, and Ryan. Although they later divorced, he remained a present and influential father. He later married Susan D. Bussio, with whom he shared many years of love, laughter, and travel.
A hardworking and skilled mechanic, Lee owned and operated American Diesel for several years. His passion for adventure led him to travel the country hauling trailers for Lone Peak Trailer-often fitting in a trap shooting competition or two along the way. He later worked for the Chadwick's as a diesel mechanic, then at Relco Locomotive, American Crane Equipment, and finally at Sterling Don Excavation, from which he retired. In his younger years, he also owned a motorcycle shop a fitting endeavor for someone known for his legendary riding skills.
Lee was a true original. He was often seen riding wheelies from American Fork to Alpine with his Dalmatian by his side, a sight many still remember fondly. He had a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor, always ready with a story, a nickname, or a clever remark that could bring a smile to anyone's face.
Lee had a deep love for all things mechanical-Jeeps, knives, guns, chainsaws-and he enjoyed teaching others what he knew, always making sure you remembered the lesson. He was a passionate and accomplished trap shooter, known across the country for his skill and precision. He could disassemble and rebuild a firearm with unmatched expertise.
Lee found joy in the simple things: chicken noodle soup with potatoes, anything in a can, and keeping salt, pepper, and mustard in his truck door or saddle bags-just in case. A true outdoorsman, he was also well known for his abundant garden, generously sharing its bounty each summer with friends and neighbors. His favorite place in the world was Wyoming, where he spent countless hours hunting, camping, fishing, chopping wood and enjoying the quiet beauty of the land.
Lee is survived by his loving wife, Susan D. Devey; his children, Steven (Deb) Devey, Stephanie (David) Tanner, and Ryan Devey; his stepchildren, Brandon (Kelly) Robinson, Jennifer (Kevin Heaps) Robinson, Joelle (Curtis Heaps) Robinson, and Jason Robinson; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Lorna Devey, and his in-laws, Lawrence and Joyce Bussio.
Lee leaves behind a legacy of grit, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A viewing will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm in the Alpine Fifth Ward Building, 165 North 100 East, Alpine, Utah followed by a graveside service at 1:00 pm under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary,
