Don Gable

Don Gable, age 77, of York, passed away at WellSpan York Hospital on December 22, 2023. He was the loving husband of Mary (Stipe) Gable; together they shared over 51 years of marriage.
Don was born in York on October 21, 1946 and was the son of the late Ralph and Mildred (Frey) Gable. He graduated from West York Area High School Class of 1964 where he participated in football, wrestling, and the band. He later graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.S in Social Science in 1968. Don taught Social Studies (Economics) for over 31 years at West York Area High School. He also coached football for 10 years and was the Assistant Athletic Director for 14 years all at West York. Don volunteered in the recreation department for West Manchester Township for over 40 years. After retirement, he worked part-time in the auction and antique business for over 18 years. Don was also a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York.
In addition to his loving wife Mary, Don is survived by his son Michael Gable and wife Lori; his daughter Melissa Markey and husband Chris; and his grandchildren Jackie, Henry, Mason, Garrison and Adyson. He is also survived by his brother Kevin Gable; his sister Jane Mula; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Gathering in celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 3:00PM – 7:00PM at the Viking Athletic Association, 318 N. Adams St., York, PA 17404.
Professional services are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove.
