Donald G. Gumble Jr., "Don a.k.a Big Daddy, Big D" as known to all his friends and
family who loved him passed away on November 13, 2025 at the age of 74 years old in
Conway , South Carolina. Don was born on September 17, 1951 in Honesdale,
Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Donald George Gumble , Sr. and Lois Mae
Gumble (Folk).
Don was a humble person who enjoyed the simpler things in life. He truly exemplified
what it meant to be a hardworking man who provided for his family. He was that guy that
would give you the shirt off his back and share what he had.
Don was a graduate of Garfield High School . After high school, he worked as a Paper
Maker working on No. 1 paper machine at Garden State Paper in Garfield, NJ. Don
tenured 30 years of service with Garden State Paper before the plant closed in
December 2001.
Don was an well respected member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks in Garfield, NJ
(Lodge No. 2267) for many years. After his retirement from Garden State Paper, Don
relocated to Beach Haven West in Manahawkin , NJ and continued his Elk membership
at Manahawkin Elks (Lodge No. 2340) . During his time at Manahawkin Elks, he was a
key contributor to bingo events and fundraising. He was always the first guy to
volunteer. He was especially proud of the work he did with the Elks and the work they
did with disabled children and veterans.
Don in his early years shared many close moments with his dad and working on cars
and Ham radios. This exposure drove Don to be a car enthusiast who grew an affinity
for Chevy make and models. He was a big fan of Corvettes and eventually owned one
for himself in retirement. He also loved dirt track racing and attended races in New
Jersey, Pennsylvania and South Carolina whenever he had the opportunity.
Don remarried later in life to his wife Nancy of 19 years. Together, they enjoyed
retirement in Conway, South Carolina. While in South Carolina they became very close
with their neighbors. Don was a devoted husband, father, friend and made sure that
everyone was taken care of . Don enjoyed his visits to Atlantic City and when he moved
to South Carolina , his trips on the "Big M".
Dons legacy lives on through his family . He is survived by his loving wife Nancy . He
was the beloved brother to his sister Cindy Krueger (spouse Wayne.) and uncle to his
nieces and nephews. His legacy is survived by his children, Lisa Occhipinti (Gumble),
Jason Gumble, Laura Millar, Kimberly Millar and Patrick Millar, Sean Steiner (spouse
Robin) and Neil Steiner (spouse Milare). Don was blessed to have 12 grandchildren,
Deanna Occhipinti, Matthew Occhipinti Jr., Madison Schaefer, Joseph Schaefer, Trent
Millar, John Connor Millar, Katelyn Millar, Aine Steiner, Sydney Steiner, Trent Steiner,
Cole Steiner and Robert Steiner.
The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to
St. Jude’s Children Hospital in his memory.
