Don Henderson

Donald Earl "Don" Henderson of Cohutta passed away June 10, 2025 at the age of 91. Born December 18, 1933 to Earl "Skip" and Elizabeth "Lib" Henderson.
He was a lifelong resident of Cohutta, a community he dedicated his life and love to. A member of the Cohutta Ruritan Club for over 70 years, he helped start the Cohutta Volunteer Fire Department and served as its Chief for many years. Later on, he helped write the initial charter for the Town of Cohutta and was elected its first Mayor, a position he held for 44 years.
If you were in a hurry, you were in trouble with Don. But if you wanted to sit and talk for hours, you could find no one better. He was a man who loved his family, his farm and his community. Along with his family farm, Don also had The Henderson Insurance Agency and Don's Sundries.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Thompson Henderson.
He is survived by his son, Steve Henderson, daughter Donna Henderson-Maples (Kenn); grandchildren Brad Walker (Megan), Patrick Henderson (Aimee), Mark Henderson
(Jennifer), Amanda Walker and Melissa Henderson Barajas; great grandchildren Baylor Walker, Emily Barajas, Cameron Barajas, Gigi Walker, Elizabeth Henderson, Damon
Barajas, Jonathan Henderson, Charlie Walker, Hyker Henderson, Rosalie Walker and Henry Walker-Livesay.
A memorial service will be held at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Nikki Collins officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the service hour of 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cohutta First Presbyterian Church, American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
