Donald Gene Logemann was born to Leonard Claus Logemann and Clarabell (Hickman) Logemann on March 8th, 1951 and passed from this life on April 22nd, 2024.
Don was the eldest of six sons and grew up on a farm in McClelland, IA. After about 12 years, his family bought a farm in Cumberland, IA where he had many fond memories of milking Holstein cows, plowing, discing, mowing, baling, and general loving to farm.
Don, in addition to his love of farming, was mechanical by nature so after he graduated Cumberland and Massena High School, he moved to Des Moines where he started a long history of mechanic work. When he got to Des Moines, he worked at Skip's DX Station for a few years at which point a friend told him about Hicklin GM Power Company where they would not only hire him but train him. He worked there for several years and became an expert diesel mechanic.
Don met the love of his life, Sandra Hall, while he was in Des Moines and they were married on December 16, 1973; celebrating 50 years in 2023. In February 1975, they became parents of their daughter, Jacqueline. The family moved to Osceola, IA after a couple years, so Don could still commute to work but also assist his father-in-law, Con Hall, in farming. Tired of commuting, Don was hired and employed at the Osceola International Dealership until they closed at which point he worked for Des Moines Asphalt for 16 years.
Don took early retirement at 55 and became a full-time farmer. He and Sandy built their dream home that same year on the farm and he enjoyed every minute of life. Jackie blessed him with three grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, and Luke. He thoroughly enjoyed being "Papa", teaching them many useful life navigating skills, and loved the time spent with them. Don also had 2 four-legged friends who were his companions no matter what: Rusty the golden retriever and Luna the old English sheep dog.
Don was a proud American, determined to fix all kinds of things. He enjoyed constructing farm fence which he was very good at. He drove International tractor," if it ain't red it stays in the shed", to the point he fixed up a sporty one and drove it in the Osceola parade one year. He liked discussing politics, playing cards, eating at steak houses, the occasional red beer, and watching Old Westerns on TV.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary as well as his father-in-law, Kenneth (Con) Hall. He leaves to cherish his memory: His wife Sandy, daughter Jackie, grandchildren Emma, Olivia, and Luke, great niece Arianna, brothers Ray, Jerry, Terry, and Kenny, sister-in-law Sally Dulinsky, several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and neighbors.
Memorial services will be held June 1, 2024, at the Osceola United Methodist Church, 130 W. Grant, Osceola, IA from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment at Union Chapel Cemetery, in Clarke County, IA will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Havaheart Rescue or St.Jude children research center.
