Don H.(Bucky) Monies, 91, of Beverly, passed away at CareOne at Essex Park in Beverly, on Friday, April 14. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Odile (Devarrene) Monies. Bucky was the loving husband of Frances (Malone) Monies with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Bucky was born and raised in Beverly, MA. He joined the Navy at age 17, and proudly served during the Korean War for 4 years aboard several Naval ships before being honorably discharged. Upon his return from the Service, he followed in his father's footsteps and became the owner/operator of the Ryal Side Jenny Citgo for many years. He was educated at the Beverly Cooperative Trade School, and upon his return from the Service, he owned and operated the very successful service station. Fixing and driving cars was something he had a passion for, which manifested into racing. He enjoyed racing his car at several New England speedways in the early years, before beginning his family. On April 29, 1960, he married the love of his life, Frances, and 3 children later his family was complete. The family spent many years vacationing at their lake house on Rock Haven Lake in West Newfield, ME. It was here that he taught all 3 children, and anyone that came to visit, how to water ski, something the entire family enjoyed. In the winter months, the family would head to the "camp" on weekends to snowmobile and snow ski. After selling the lake house, he took up golf and was a member of the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club and later the Wenham Country Club. Golf became a big part of his life and he enjoyed playing with his wife and friends. He was also a member of the Union Club in Beverly, and played on their Softball and Bowling Leagues. He was an avid fan of New England Sports. He enjoyed the Boston Bruins, Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. Bucky had a big heart, he was always ready to lend a hand if you needed it, and was caring and kind. Although he was a man of few words, he had a quick wit which he held onto even while he was living with Dementia.
Bucky is survived by his wife; two sons, Dana Monies of Beverly, Daniel Monies of Beverly; daughter Dawn DePalma of Wenham; two grandchildren, Brandon DePalma of St Petersburg, FL and Hailee Monies of Salem, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Larry and sister-in-law Lois Monies of Columbus, Indiana.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life and graveside service once a date is secured.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bucky's memory to the Alzheimer's Association,
Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St, Beverly. Information and condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.

Dear Fran,
Sending my heartfelt sympathy on the passing of Bucky. I loved being in his company everyday at the Transportation Dept. for the Beverly Public Schools. He was one of the best and always put himself out there to assist in driving a bus when ever needed. He was our go to guy.
Fran, I loved seeing you as well each day as you also was one of the best bus drivers we had. Both of you were
dedicated and dependable on the job. You were a special couple that I got to know and share my work day with. I send my love and condolences to you and your family.
With deepest sympathy,
Cathy Jankowski
