LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Donald Bruce Plyler, age 79, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at his home. He was born January 22, 1943, a son of the late G. B. Plyler and Ella Catoe Plyler and was the husband of the late Martha Carolyn Randall Plyler. Mr. Plyler proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing cards. Baseball was his passion and he played minor league for the Chicago White Sox. Mr. Plyler was a sports official who coached many different sports. Family was most important to him, and he loved them all dearly. Mr. Plyler was a very active member of Camp Creek Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School leader, RA leader, Youth teacher, and member of the choir.
Mr. Plyler is survived by his son, Stephen Plyler (Jodie); his daughter, Donna Caskey; nine grandchildren, Morgan LaValle (Daniel), Jacob Plyler (Donya), Brynn Steele (Alex), Noah Caskey, Ella Caskey, Claire Plyler, Avery Plyler, Madison Pelfrey, and Kara Caskey; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Pelfrey; two brothers, Edward Plyler (Debra), and Grady Plyler (Byrd); a sister, Linda Plyler; three sisters-in-law, Elfreida Plyler, Barbara Plyler, and Marlene Plyler; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Plyler; a son, Paul R. Plyler; his parents; four brothers, Gene Plyler, Jack Plyler, Frank Plyler, and Allen Plyler; two sisters, Mattie Goodman, and Barbara Hamby; and two brothers-in-law, John Goodman, and Tip Hamby.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Plyler will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Camp Creek Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Randy Mellichamp. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the burial in the church fellowship hall. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Camp Creek Baptist Church, Youth Fund, 998 Potter Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
