Don Vanderhyde Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Skinner Funeral Home - Shell Lake on Aug. 22, 2024.
Donald Wayne Vanderhyde, 95, of Madge died, August 12, 2024, at Shell Lake Health Care Center. He was born June 16, 1929, at the family farm in Madge to John and Edith Vanderhyde.
Don worked on the family farm for many years. He later took over the Bar Convenience Store in 1957 from his dad, John Vanderhyde, when it was just a beer bar. George Baker ran Vanderhydes for 6 years but still in Vanderhyde's name. His family will miss Don asking, "Is the bar open? Did you get mail? Is Coke light on? High lights on? Bills paid?"
He was the Board Chairman of the Madge Town Hall for a number of years. Don was well liked by everyone who knew him; and he knew a lot of people! He also liked his John Deer Tractors and Dodge Colt. Don had a wealth of knowledge. He was always able to give detailed instructions on how to get somewhere or how to get a project done. Don was always willing to help anyone, anytime with invaluable advice, credit, job referrals, or anything else that was needed.
He is survived by his children: Lucy Braeckman, Jeff Vanderhyde, Tammy Washkuhn, and Kevin Vanderhyde; grandchildren: Adam and Dylan Washkuhn, Bobby Braeckman, and Ashley (Jake) May; great grandchildren: Jayden, Mikaylaa, Graycen, Gavin, Maelee, Finley, Chevy, Eleanor, and Oliver; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith; brothers: Bob Ruport, Dean Vanderhyde, Ernie Vanderhyde, Bert Vanderhyde, Cal Vanderhyde, and Richard Vanderhyde; sisters, Artis Peppinger and Muriel Ruport; son-in-law, Bob Braeckman; and other family.
Celebration of Life will be held at Madge Town Hall on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from Noon-4 PM.
Skinner Funeral Home of Shell Lake is serving the family.
