Hanson-Runsvold Funeral HomeA funeral service for Donald Edwin Anderson, age 94, of Fargo, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11am at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Fargo. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 at the church. The family would like to extend an invitation to lunch and fellowship immediately following the service. Don passed away on October 5, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Donald Edwin Anderson was born on September 22, 1931 in Fullerton, ND, the second son of Albin and Emma Anderson. He grew up on the family farm with his parents and his big brother Loren. He graduated from Fullerton High School in 1948, and North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND in 1953. He served his country overseas as a U.S. Army 1st Lt. Don and Joanne "Jo" (Woodward) wed in 1955, and Don finished his Master's degree at NDSU. He worked on the NDSU faculty until 1962 when he took a leave of absence and moved to the University of Minnesota where he completed his PhD in Agricultural Economics. He then returned to the NDSU faculty in 1964. For a farm boy from Dickey County, he enjoyed an exciting and rewarding career at North Dakota State University working with the development of agricultural research and education in North Dakota and throughout the world. Don retired as Acting Vice President for Agriculture and Professor Emeritus in Agricultural Economics in 1995.
Don enjoyed summers at the lake and winters in Arizona, traveling, golfing, hunting, fishing, but most of all anything that involved spending time with his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joanne; five children, Craig (Claudine) Anderson of Ogema, MN; Kirk Anderson (Peggy Wolfe) of Lincoln, NE; Carter (Merry) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; Karla (Steve) Labernik of Spencer, IA; Kent (Gretchen) Anderson of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica) Anderson of South Minneapolis, MN; Maxwell (Marjorie) Anderson of Lincoln, NE; John (Tori) Labernik of Pella, IA; Adam (Pravda) Labernik of Iowa City, IA; Charlie Anderson of Fargo, ND; Chelsea Anderson of Fargo, ND.
