Williamsport, MD Donald Lee "Laco" Anderson, 94, of
Williamsport, MD passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Doeys House, Hagerstown, MD. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, lover of all sports and friend to many.
He was born on November 26, 1930, in
Williamsport, MD to the late John Thomas Anderson, Sr. and Katherine Elizabeth (Miller) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Clopper (Gearhart) Anderson who passed away on November 3, 2007.
Laco was a 1948 graduate of Williamsport High School. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of the State Championship teams in all three sports. He will be missed by all the former coaches and athletes at WHS that he continued to support and follow through the years. Laco never missed a game played by his granddaughters from elementary school through college.
He played catcher for many local baseball teams and was drafted by the Chicago Farm System where he played for two years in Bethlehem, PA as well as DeLand, FL.
He was inducted into the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
Laco enjoyed duckpin bowling, mowing the grass, and using his snowblower for snow removal. He and his wife were also avid fisherman and enjoyed many days on the Potomac River in their fishing boat.
He was employed as a Mechanic by Jamison Cold Storage Door Company for 35 years until his retirement. He traveled all over the country to install doors. He was previously employed by Fairchild Industries for 10 years.
Laco was a lifetime member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church,
Williamsport, MD where he served as a Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and Usher.
He was also a lifetime member of Joiners and Carpenters Union #340, Hagerstown Elks Lodge #378, Conococheague Red Men Tribe #84, and Funkstown Rod & Gun Club.
He is survived by his "favorite" daughter, Donna Weimer and her husband, John; his #1 granddaughter, Carrie Deaver and her husband, Zachary; his #2 granddaughter, Brooke Weimer and her wife, Tina; great grandchildren Lucy Deaver, Molly Deaver, Drew Torre, and Eli Torre; his longtime best friend Russell Easterday.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother John Thomas Anderson, Jr.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St.
Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 2:00 4:00 pm and 6:00 8:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Rehoboth United Methodist Church,
Williamsport, MD on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Bishop officiating. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, and staff of Meritus Medical Center for the wonderful care and love that they showed Laco during his last visit there. Even though it was very short, thank you to the nurses and staff at Doey's House for the peaceful and comfortable care they gave him at the end of his life.
