Come celebrate the life of Donald Roulef Cassaday, affectionately known as Don, a life long resident of Pennsauken NJ who passed away peacefully of natural causes on the 7th of August, 2025, at the Masonic Home in Burlington, NJ. Don was born to the late Roulef and Evelyn Cassaday (nee Rodenbeck)on April 8th, 1934, in Camden, NJ. Don's journey through life was marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, a long satisfying career as an electrician and a passion for the history of the railroad.
Don graduated from Merchantville High School in 1951 and went on to further his education at Camden County Vocational School. There, he honed his skills to become an electrician, a profession that would serve him well throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Following his military service, Don joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #351, where he was not only a member but a friend and mentor to many.
His love for his family was evident in everything he did. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Cassaday (née Garrity), to whom he was married for 61 years prior to her death in 2019. He was a loving father to his daughters, Kathleen Boltz (Mike), Eileen Hastings (Joe), Brenda Anderson (Jim), and Denise Cassaday (Chris). He was a grandfather to Megan (Rick), Kyle (Angelica), Ian (Monica), Patrick, and Cassie. He was also a great grandfather to RJ and James. He is survived by his only brother Bill Cassaday and sister in law Sue, niece Karen and nephew Scott (Merideth). Don is also survived by Joan's sister Catherine Poulter and many nieces and nephews and their families.
A man of many interests, Don was particularly passionate about railroad history. He was an avid collector of railroad antiques, specializing in locks and lanterns. His knowledge on the subject was vast and detailed, earning him respect in the collector's community. Don was also a former member of the West Jersey Railroad Historical Society, where he shared his passion and knowledge with fellow enthusiasts.
Those who knew Don would describe him as intelligent and analytical. His keen eye for detail and his methodical approach to problem-solving were traits that served him well both professionally and in his personal pursuits.
We invite everyone to join us as we honor Don one last time at his visitation on Friday, August 15th, 2025 from 10:am to 11:30am at Inglesby and Sons funeral Home, 2426 Cove Road, Pennsauken NJ 08109.
