Donald D DeCamp

Loving husband and father, Donald D. DeCamp of Kingston, Massachusetts passed away Sunday, September 21 at the age of 81. His integrity, wit and optimism will live on in his children and grandchildren.
Don was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Toledo, Ohio by his mother, Sophia and Grandmother, Balvina Kamieniecki. He was a hard-working and talented jazz trumpet and piano player, and his love of music was the core of his spirit and work ethic. He studied music at the University of Toledo and his service playing with the 555th Air Force Band was a great source of pride and formed life-long friendships.
He built a successful business career with dedication, ambition and talent that took us all to beautiful places and enriched our own life experiences. He led by example with generosity and authenticity and showed others what a thoughtful leader looks like. He may have become a business executive, but music was always ever present. He found a band to play with in every city he lived, and we all looked forward to our yearly birthday serenades.
His life will be remembered in the stories he told and the laughter we all shared. His sense of humor was the foundation of his personality and was imparted to his children and his grandchildren alike.
Above all, he loved his family, and we are all so grateful.
Don is survived by his wife, Carol Anne, daughter, Deborah DeCamp (Richard Stokes) daughter, Tamarah Delevan (Robert Delevan, Jr.) daughter, Sandra Michaud (Damien Michaud) and son, Christopher DeCamp. We find comfort that his legacy will live on in his seven grandchildren, Eli Michaud, Finn Michaud, Madelynn Delevan, Benjamin Stokes, Arlo Michaud, Tyler Stokes and Sydney Stokes.
A family memorial mass took place Saturday, September 27, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Duxbury, Massachusetts. The family chose historic Woodlawn Cemetery, NYC for his interment to be among the jazz greats and ensure the music continues. Burial will take place there on October 18, at 2pm with a reception to follow at 5pm at the Intercontinental New York, 111 East 48th Street, New York, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Arturo Sandoval Institute (ASÍ) dedicated to providing access, support, and inspiration to young musicians, empowering them to pursue their education without the burden of financial barriers. In addition, donations may also be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
