Donald R. Failing II, 77, of Litchfield, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. He was born on March 3, 1948 in Albion to Donald R. and Mary Louise (Panney) Failing. Don married Susan (Campbell) on August 26, 1972 and she survives.
Don graduated from Litchfield High School, class of 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1968-1969. He was a police officer for the City of Litchfield and served as Police Chief for a short while. Don also served on the Hillsdale City Police Department as well as the Litchfield Fire Department. Don and his father co-owned both the Gulf Station and Marathon Gas stations in Litchfield at one time. He was a truck driver for several years for Worden Brothers in Coldwater. Don enjoyed most of his working years as a salesman for Purdy Ford Tractor Sales, Godfrey Brothers Tractor Sales and Livonia Tool and Laser. He always treated his customers well and had the gift to gab. Don retired in 2019. Don was proud to serve on the Litchfield TIFA Board for 25 years and was also on the Litchfield City Council for many years. He spent many years up north fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. Don loved camping with his family and friends at Waffle Farm Campground. He also loved spending time with, and attending sporting events of his five grandchildren, and was often found bragging about them to whoever would listen to his stories. He also loved taking fishing trips with his buddies. Don and Sue attended the First Baptist Church of Litchfield.
In addition to his wife, Susan, Don is survived by one daughter, Kristen (Mike) Miller of Litchfield; one son, Kyle (Michelle) Failing of Litchfield and five grandchildren, Luke Miller, Jenna Miller, Andrew Failing, Tyler Failing and Madison Failing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for Donald R. Failing II will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 11 AM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield with Pastor Brent Stille officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church of Litchfield.
