Richard (Dick) Lee Riggs, 85, of Litchfield, Michigan passed away at his residence in Litchfield, Michigan. Born December 26, 1939 in Cadillac, MI. He was the son of Gerald and Gladys Riggs. Dick received his associates degree from Jackson College and this summer completed his Integrated Design and Manufacturing Certificate at Western Michigan University. He worked as a tool and Die Maker at Game Time, Simpson Stamping, Allied, Cambria Tool, Johan van de Weerd Co, Inc., and as a Prototype Engineer for Simpson Industries.
On July 25, 1962 he married Nancy Sue Schmidt in Bryan, Ohio. In addition to the role of husband and father, he and Nancy established Riggs Wildlife Rehabilitation Haven. For 20 years they rescued, rehabilitated, and released a wide range of animals. In 1995 he and Nancy followed their dream and moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming in 1995 where he continued his career at B&G Industries. There they enjoyed western history, going to Yellowstone and exploring the mountains together. They were married for 53 years. Nancy passed away in 2015 and Dick moved back to Michigan.
Loved ones remaining are his son, Richard "Rick" (Joy Sutton) Riggs, Jonesville, MI, daughters Amy (Charles) Frybarger, Mason, MI, and Kathy (Jeffrey) Dole, Eagle, MI; grandchildren Rachael Matthews, Michael Dole, Kayla Tripp, Skye Riggs, Travis Sutton, Joel Sutton, and Grace Frybarger; great grandchildren Scarlett Matthews, Lily Matthews, Jocelyn Smith, Ian Smith, Harper Tripp, Hannah Tripp, Maximus Tripp, Alexander Tripp, Baron Tripp, Brayden Westoff, Owen Sutton, Ryan Sutton, Logan Sutton, special friend Cynthia Drake and close friend Ron Spieth.
At his request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in his name be made to Beyond Angel Care LLC or the Litchfield Historical Society, in appreciation of the care he received and the community he cherished.
