Donald Anthony Haws, devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 24, 2025. He won his valiant fight with cancer that challenged his body & spirit for over 15 years. He fought harder than anyone could have ever imagined against an aggressive form of blood cancer. He was given a year to live but way surpassed it. Cancer didn't have a clue about the mountain of a man it picked a fight with.
He was born to Donald Delbert Haws & Evelyn Purton Haws on December 20, 1948. He was the oldest child and had two sisters, Ruth A. Haws and Peggy Raddon. Don graduated from South High School. It was during high school that he met his sweetheart, Beverly Ann Taylor, on a blind date. Married on April 4, 1969, in Salt Lake City, they were later sealed for eternity on May 22, 1982, in the Jordan River Temple in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They celebrated 55 years together here and are now reunited in Heaven. Don was everything to Bev. They were inseparable and were a great example of love and commitment. Together they have three children, Tony, Tim, and Tiffany. They loved camping, fishing the creeks, hunting, and horseback riding where countless memories were made. His life was well marked by his service, hard work, and love for his family.
Dad had a quiet strength, never in the spotlight or out in front of a crowd. He was a source of constant love, support, and strength behind the scenes. He would always help anyone that needed it. Their home welcomed everyone. They raised three kids and their friends, and together they helped raise a village. He loved working with his hands-building homes and anything with wood. They were all built to last. Don was a man of integrity and patience. He was also a devoted and beloved Scout leader to many young men for over 30+ years.Don served in many capacities at home, at church, in the community and as an Army veteran.
Don is survived by his children-Tony (Mindy) Haws and Tim Haws (Michelle Simpson) and Justin (Amy) Castillo, his grandchildren Camille Johnson, Preston Haws, Kiya Castillo, Alexis Simpson, Nakesha Steadman, Scottie Redmond, and Ty Hofhine, and great-grandchildren Chantelle Johnson and Ariel Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Haws, their daughter Tiffany Haws, his parents Donald D. Haws and Evelyn Purton Haws, Bev's parents Gene and Opal Taylor, and her brothers Warren Taylor and Roger Taylor.
The family thanks all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their expertise, care, and kindness throughout this part of Don's journey.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Dimple Dell Ward building at 10945 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah, on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:45 AM prior to the services.
Interment will follow at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah, at 1:00 PM.
