Donald R. Hinze, age 70, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL, passed away on March 8, 2025 at Arista of Naperville. He was born in Berwyn, IL on February 17, 1955.
Don is survived by his children Mathew Hinze (Julie), Sarah Schewe (Caleb), Michael Hinze, and Martin Erl (Hannah); 4 grandchildren Rachel, Luke, Chloe, and Lydia Schewe; brother John Hinze (Elizabeth), and sister Jane Buth (David).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Grace Hinze, grandparents John and Minnie Bertram and William and Olga Hinze.
Don grew up in Naperville and attended Highland School, Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Naperville Central High School, Class of 1973. In 1978 he earned his bachelor's degree in education from Concordia University Chicago.
He married Adele Hermanas on May 28, 1978, the day after college graduation. This marriage was blessed with 4 children, Matthew, Sarah, Michael, and Martin.
Don worked in retail for several years after college; soon after he began his career as a teacher in the Lutheran School System. In his more recent years, his coworkers at the Naperville Public Libraries fondly remember Don as being very helpful and friendly.
Don was an avid reader. He also enjoyed participating in many hobbies including woodworking and bike riding. He was involved in his children's church, school, and sports activities, and always looked forward to camping vacations with the family. He enjoyed celebrating holidays and special moments with his extended family.
Don was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church growing up. He was very active in his youth group. In his more recent years, he taught Sunday School and participated in men's groups at the church.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Don's life, memorial donations may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church, Naperville, IL.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 10:30-11:30 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Rd., Naperville. Funeral Services will follow at 11:30 AM with Pastor Stephen Schumacher officiating.
