Carrie Lynne Blixt-Diaz, a beloved mother, daughter and sister, passed away at the age of 56 on June 16, 2025; she leaves behind a legacy filled with love, learning, and laughter. Born to Larry and Beth Blixt on December 12, 1968, in Fairfield, Iowa. Carrie grew up and attended the Urbandale community schools from first grade through high school. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Iowa and loved cheering on the Hawkeyes. Driven by a passion for education, Carrie completed her Master of Education in Elementary and Middle School Education at National Louis University. Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to pursue advanced studies at Concordia University Chicago, where she was working toward her Doctorate of Education.
Carrie followed her passion for the arts and education by living and working in the Chicagoland area, where she thrived in an environment rich with creativity and culture. Her unique sense of style and artistic flair made her distinguishable and unforgettable.
She found immense joy in guiding young minds, fostering creativity, and inspiring a love for learning. Her dedication to education touched many lives, and her impact will be felt for a long time.
After more than three decades and raising her boys in Chicago, Carrie began a new chapter in 2023 by moving to Mesa, Arizona; drawn by the warmth and the allure of snow-free winters. There, she enjoyed working in higher education, horseback riding and relished the stunning desert scenery.
Above all, Carrie treasured her role as a mother. Her four sons - Nicholas, Jacob, Jon, and Josh - were her greatest source of pride and joy. She took immense delight in watching them grow into strong, compassionate men, each reflecting her unwavering love and support. The boys share in her enjoyment of music and singing. She proudly supported them as they participated in show choir, bringing back fond memories of her high school years, performing in swing choir and varies other musical groups.
Carrie was a strong and loving older sister to both Kristin and Cyndi. She taught them how to draw and ride horses, sharing her talents and passions with them from a young age. Her encouragement and guidance shaped their lives in countless ways. Carrie's Christian faith was the foundation of her life, shaping her character and guiding her actions. She found strength and comfort in her relationship with Jesus Christ, and her faith inspired her to serve others with kindness, patience, and grace.
Carrie's legacy endures in her family and everyone fortunate enough to have shared in her remarkable journey. Her memory will continue to inspire and bring love to those she touched. We take comfort in knowing that Carrie is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, and that her faith has brought her to eternal rest. As 2 Timothy 4:7 reminds us, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Carrie is survived by her sons, Nicholas, Jacob (Megan), Jon (Emily), and Josh; her sisters, Kristin (Brad, Logan, Claire) and Cyndi (Shawn, Reese, Isla); and her parents, Larry and Beth. Her vibrant sense of style, artistic spirit, and boundless enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Carrie's life will be held at 5pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Iles Westover Chapel. Her family will receive friends beginning at 4pm. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
