Ronald Lee Owens, 85, passed away on August 23, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Warren Powers Cemetery.
Ron was born in Des Moines on September 12, 1939, to Paul and Cecil (Wilson) Owens. He lived his entire life in Des Moines, but never wanted to get tired of the same old house. He always loved to be in a new place, moving countless times throughout his life. Homes weren't the only things Ron changed often. He was always looking for that newer truck, purchasing a different one whenever he got the chance. Ron loved the outdoors, spending many days bow hunting and fishing, as well as taking drives around town.
Ron's first job required him to dress as Mr. Peanut. This was a story he fondly told throughout his life. He spent most of his adult life working in the printing industry. Ron finished his career at Garner Printing, retiring in 1996 after years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed driving a bus for Carlisle Schools.
His sense of humor was one of a kind, and he never shied away from telling a joke, even if it was a bit inappropriate. With no filter to hold him back, his jokes were as bold as his personality, and he never failed to leave those around him smiling.
Ron is survived by his children, Danny (Wendy) Owens and Ronda Owens; grandchildren: Tyler Owens, Shanna (Nick) Bennett, Sarah Owens, Lindsay Owens, Zach Owens, Ryan Gile, Kelsey (Gentaro) Sath, Dylan (Kayla) Gile, Gunner (Jaycee) Gile, and Hailey Owens; great grandchildren: Ellie, Michael, Jake, Natalee, Austin, Drake, Joplin, Holden, Slater, Karver, Adrian, Kylo, Kira, Kora, Jersey, Jaylynn, Rayson, Hardin, and Rowan; and his great-great grandchildren: Izaiah, Ivory, and Xanlee.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Patricia; son, Steve Owens; and his brothers, Donald Owens and Victor Owens.
Memorials in Ron's name may be directed to his family.
