Donald J. Jowdy
Donald J. Jowdy, 89, of Bedford, NH, formerly of Danbury, died on Friday, October 24, 2025 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH.
He was the husband of the late Helen Connie (Morrison) Jowdy.
Donald was born in Danbury on February 23, 1936, a son of Emil and Rose (Shaheen) Jowdy. He graduated among the Class of 1955 at Danbury High School where he met many of his close friends and often recalled fond memories playing on the football team. He was hard working, focused on providing the best for his family. He owned his own catering business, Jowdy's catering, for many years, driving his food truck around town, delivering sandwiches and snacks to local businesses, setting up at high school football games, and running concessions at a local country club. He later moved into the car business, retiring as an auto salesman for Colonial Subaru having been recognized as one of the lead sellers in New England on multiple occasions. He was very connected to the Danbury community, serving as a member of the Exchange Club of Danbury for 45 years and contributing as a parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church even while living in NH.
As dedicated as he was to his work and the Danbury community, his love and devotion as a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather will be what he is remembered for most. He left behind important lessons and a legacy of being kind and considerate, treating others with respect and loving unconditionally.
Donald's hobbies included vacationing with his family and friends, playing golf every Wednesday and Sunday, watching his favorite sports and reading the daily paper with his coffee and breakfast in hand.
He is survived by children Susan (Jowdy) McKinley and husband Keith of Nashua, NH, Donald R. Jowdy and wife Christine of Tampa, FL, Beth (Jowdy) Sheehan and husband Todd of Weare, NH, and grandchildren Patrick McKinley and wife Liz, Brian McKinley and wife Victoria, Brandon Sheehan and great grandchild Maeve McKinley. He also leaves behind brother Joseph E. Jowdy and wife Kathleen of Danbury, CT, as well as sister-in-law Valerie Morrison and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was predeceased by brothers Albert Jowdy and Richard Jowdy.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury.
Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 4PM to 7PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice House, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054, St. Anthony Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury, CT 06810 or to Quantum Leap Farm, 10401 Woodstock Rd., Odessa, FL 33556-5017
