Donald (Don) William Lockwood, beloved husband of the late Loraine F. Lockwood, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, in Greer, South Carolina, at the age of 86.
Born on July 28, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas, Don lived a life filled with purpose, dedication, and love for his family and faith. He was the son of the late Estelle William and Bernice Wackerhagen Lockwood. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Riggs; and son-in-law, Dale McDaris.
Don attended Clemson University until he felt the call to serve his country. A veteran of the United States Navy, Don exemplified a servant's heart throughout his life. He made a significant impact during his career in electronics sales, but it was his retirement that allowed him to fully embrace the joys of grandparenthood. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Don cherished his family deeply.
He was known lovingly as "Papa," a title he wore with pride, as he cherished every moment with his grandchildren. Don always sported a warm smile and never met a stranger. His wonderful sense of humor, and his ability to connect with others truly made him a friend to all.
He loved every moment spent with his daughter, Whitney McDaris, and his beloved grandchildren, Grayson and Tinsley McDaris, as well as his faithful companion, Wookie (who benefited greatly from Papa's shared snacks). His faith and family meant everything to him, and he took great pride in the legacy of love and support he forged.
Don was a man of profound faith; his connection to his church and community served as a guiding light in his life. He believed in the power of kindness, compassion, and fellowship. These values resonated deeply in all his relationships. His various roles in the church were, no doubt, important to him but the servant's role was one that he particularly embraced after his retirement.
He and Loraine would often visit the sick and homebound to bring them a meal, communion, lend an ear, or voice a prayer. He served and mentored faithfully for many years and the impact of how God used him still resonates through the lives touched.
Don was a Life Member and Past Master of the Wade Hampton Lodge 404 of the Free Masons of SC. He cultivated many friendships throughout the years and no doubt will be remembered fondly.
Don's legacy will be honored during a funeral service that will be held at Woodruff Road Christian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025. with the visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. A burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to Woodruff Road Christian Church or Samaritan's Purse.
Donald William Lockwood will be laid to rest with the dignity he merited, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.

Leta

May 31, 2025

My name is Leta Bishop. I knew Don and Lorraine from my husband Paul Bishop, who graduated with Don and they were best friends in high school. I just found out about Don's death, and I am so sorry I am late, but I pray that God will continue to comfort Whitney, Grayson and Tinsley. Don and Lorraine came to a high school reunion once and stayed with us during that time. It was a joy to be with them. They both were exceptional people. I cannot elaborate on Don's Obituary but it speaks the truth. I believe he was all of those things. Don called me occasionally, and I enjoyed those calls. At that time, Paul had left this earth several years ago, and Lorraine had also left (I believe they both are in Heaven now). It was so nice hearing his voice. He still sounded strong even though I knew he had been sick for a long time. Whitney, you had a wonderful mother and father and I can only imagine how much you miss them. May God bless you and your family. They loved you all so much.
