Publish in a newspaper

Donald Samuel Long, a pillar of strength and kindness in his community, as well as a Marine veteran passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on February 3, 1940, in Leominster, Donald's life was marked by his unwavering generosity and commitment to family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
Donald is survived by a loving family that includes his daughters, Jennifer Gallant and her husband Dan, Dawn Long and significant other Felipe Berdeguer, and Janice Fuentes and her husband Guillermo, a sister, Susan Long Jarman, along with his cherished grandchildren, Adam, Cody, Chad, Jenessa, Giovani, Dominick, Sofia, and Josephine, will hold dear the memory of his warmth and guidance. Donald was also a beloved uncle and cousin to many. His best friend, Sheba, will miss his companionship dearly. Predeceased by his parents, Robert C. Long and Dorothy D. Long (Dallas), wife Lorraine A. (Carter) Long, his son Donald Dale Long, and brothers Robert C. Long III, David M. Long and Kenneth A. Long. Donald's legacy lives on through the lives of those who loved him.
A proud graduate of Fitchburg High School, Donald's love for football not only saw him on the field in his youth but also inspired his grandsons to follow in his athletic footsteps. His lifelong support of Fitchburg High School football was unwavering, and his presence at games will be deeply missed.
Donald's entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate the Fitchburg Weightlifting Club, where he not only set a world record in weightlifting but also fostered a community of strength and perseverance. His dedication to his work and the people he served was evident in every aspect of his life.
His commitment to service extended well beyond his professional endeavors. As a treasurer for Toys for Tots via the Marine League, past president and lifetime member of the Marconi Club, a member of Local 39 Laborer's Union since 1968, and a passionate participant in men's and women's softball leagues, Donald's impact on his community was profound. Notably, his role in founding the women's softball league in Fitchburg and his time as an umpire demonstrated his belief in the power of sports to unite and empower.
Donald's generosity knew no bounds, as seen in his participation in a 24-hour softball tournament that raised $10,000 for the construction of a soccer field. His efforts in the realm of arm wrestling and other athletic competitions further showcased his love for sports and community engagement.
Above all, Donald will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous man who lived his life with a deep sense of duty to those around him. His legacy is one of love, strength, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Donald Samuel Long's memory will be cherished and his life celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 23 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in Richardson Funeral Home. A Military honors with committal service will be held on Friday, October 24 at the Mass. Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, MA at 2:00 P.M.
