Obituary published on Legacy.com by John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 4, 2026.
Donald A. MacEachern, 76, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, March 2, 2026, at UPMC Altoona. Born December 5, 1949 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Reverend Warren A. MacEachern and Freda A. (McVicker) MacEachern, who survives in Tyrone. He was united in marriage to the former Christine C. Port on August 2, 1969 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Petersburg, by the Reverend Warren A. MacEachern. His wife of 56 years survives at their residence.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by three children, Curtis MacEachern and wife, Dayna, Joelle Lightner and husband, Richard, and Aaron MacEachern; two grandchildren, Lucas Lightner and Reagan Lightner; and his faithful canine companion, Archie. He is also survived by two sisters, Darlene Lake and husband, John, and Donna Newburg and husband, Steve; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

He attended the Petersburg Bethel Presbyterian Church, Petersburg.

Don was a member of the Cloyd K. Davis Post 150, American Legion, Petersburg, where he served as a past Post Commander and currently held the position of Vice Post Commander.

He was an active member of the Petersburg community and previously served on the Petersburg Borough Council for many years. He also assisted the American Legion with hanging the Hometown Heroes banners throughout the Shavers Creek Valley and maintained the landscaping at the Peterburg diamond memorial.

He was previously an executive board member of the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame; and was inducted into the Central PA Football Coaches Association in 2012. He was also a member of the former Huntingdon Jaycees.

Coach Mac held the position of assistant coach to the Juniata Valley High School football team from 1981 until 2018, and assisted with taking three separate teams to the PIAA District VI Football Championships. He also served as an assistant coach to the Juniata Valley High School baseball team from 2015 until 2018, where he aided multiple teams in advancing to the PIAA District VI Baseball Championships. In addition, he served as an assistant football coach at Juniata College in 2014. After stepping away from coaching, he remained both an active volunteer and supporter of Juniata Valley athletics.

He was a 1968 graduate of Juniata Valley High School, Alexandria.

Don enlisted in the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania on August 13, 1970, and served with Co. A., 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry, at Huntingdon. He was honorably discharged on August 12, 1976, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th class, and was awarded a Marksmanship Rifle Badge, the General Thomas J. Stewart Medal, and a Pennsylvania Service Ribbon for Tropical Storm Agnes with 1 Silver Star. Later, he reenlisted in the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania on May 30, 1978, serving with Co. A., 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry, at Huntingdon, and was honorably discharged May 29, 1979.

He was employed at SCI Huntingdon, where he held the position of Corrections Food Service Manager, and retired in 2011.

Don was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed cheering on the Philadelphia Phillies, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State Football and Wrestling, and Juniata Valley High School athletics. He took great pride in his landscaping. Don loved taking care of his property, as well as, assisting his neighbors on School Lane with theirs. Above all, he adored spending time with his family; and especially enjoyed organizing and going on family trips, and wintering in Florida with his wife, Christine.

Friends will be received from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 6, 2026, and from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 7th, at the funeral home, with Jim Foster and the Reverend Lori Danielson officiating. Private interment will take place in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg, PA, where military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cloyd K. Davis American Legion Post 150, 117 King St., Petersburg, PA, 16669 or to the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 254, Petersburg, PA 16669.
