Donald James Macy was born November 2, 1936 to James W. and Marian (Kinzer) Macy in Liscomb, IA. Don was raised in the Liscomb area and graduated from Liscomb High School in 1954. After high school, Don served in the United States Army in intelligence. While in the Army, he served in Germany and was honorably discharged.

Don and Joyce met and fell in love in 1963. They were united in marriage on November 8, 1963 in Marshalltown. Don farmed in the Bangor area until he retired in the late 1990s. He had his own trucking business and traveled throughout the United States. Joyce worked for 38 years at the Marshalltown Hospital as lead unit secretary until her retirement in 2002.
Don enjoyed camping and cooking. He was an instant friend and was loved by all who met him. Joyce enjoyed coloring, visiting with friends and shopping. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed sneaking sweet treats with the grandkids. Together, they traveled frequently to Waterville, MN, where they enjoyed fishing and wintering in Texas. They were members of the Bangor Liberty Friends Church. They never met a stranger or a child they didn't "adopt" as a grandchild. More than anything else, they loved spending time with their family and adored their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don and Joyce are survived by their children: Robin (Keith) Wendt of Ankeny, William (Jo) Macy of Conrad and Beth (Stuart) Fuhs of Bangor; their grandchildren: Jessica (Justin) Leinen, Meagan McComb, Brandon (Lia) Wendt, Emma (Andy) Michels, Clarke Macy and Olivia Macy; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
