STRUTHERS - Donald "Main" Coppola, 77, died July 15, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, surrounded by his family.
Born on December 9, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of the late Louis and Margaret Bakalar Coppola.
A graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1966, Donald went on to serve his country honorably as a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a robust career starting at Sheet and Tube, where he worked for 20 years until its closing. He then joined General Motors, serving as a forklift driver for another two decades before retiring.
Donald was an avid sports fan, passionately supporting both the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers. His loyalty to these teams was well-known among friends and family. He also embraced life with an enthusiasm for social activities. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony's. Fishing, golfing, and bowling in various leagues brought him joy, and he cherished the time spent at the casino with his brothers. Most importantly, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who embraced him as "Poppy Main".
In addition to his multitude of interests, Donnie was incredibly proud of his accomplishments in AA, where he maintained nearly 40 years of sobriety.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife, the former Kathleen Bush, whom he married on October 10, 1970. He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Michelle (Chris) Cann of Port Orange, FL; sons, Kevin (Amy) Coppola of Struthers and Donnie (Melissa) Coppola of Struthers; brother, Ray (Marianne) Coppola of Poland; sister-in-law Carole Coppola of Struthers; and six adoring grandchildren: Cameron, Clare, Gracie, Calen, Adeline, and Luca.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Twin, Ronald "Rear" Coppola, and Rich Coppola.
Family and friends may call Monday, July 21, 2025 from 11 am to 12:45 pm at Christ Our Savior, St. Nicholas Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm. Per request of the family, please wear your favorite Cleveland Indians or Cavaliers apparel to support Donnie's love for his beloved teams.
Remaining in the family home has always been of utmost importance to both Donnie and Kathy. To honor that wish, any contribution will go towards continuing in-home care for Kathy.
