Obituary of Donald R. Mattison

Donald R. Mattison, age 82, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Silver Cross Hospital, in New Lenox, with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 3, 1943, in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Romain and Alice (nee Frantum) Mattison. Donald proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1966.

He retired as Maintenance Foreman from Panduit in Tinley Park after 30 years of dedicated service. Donald found great joy in the beauty of the outdoors, whether exploring nature, visiting National Parks, or just taking simple day trips. A skilled woodworker, he poured love into every piece he created, gifting his handmade pieces to family and friends.

Above all, he cherished his role as grandfather. He was his grandchildren's biggest supporter, never missing a chance to cheer them on at their sporting events.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ruth; children, Craig (Melissa) Mattison, and Scott (Andrea) Mattison; grandchildren, Ashley, Parker, Ethan, Evan, and Emilee.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Military Honors will be held at 6:00 p.m. under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps. Due to his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
