Donald F. McCloskey, 77, of Milesburg, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, September 15, 21024, from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on November 3, 1946, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Raymond and Betty (Houtz) McCloskey.
Don was a 1964 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He enlisted in the US Army on February 4, 1966, earned the rank of Sgt, and received his honorable discharge on January 29, 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal for his years of service. He was a driver for Suburban Propane for many years before retiring.
Don was a member of the Milesburg Legion Post 893. Bellefonte VFW Post 1600, Clarence Moose Lodge 1565. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed everything outdoors. He liked going to his camp, collecting guns, and going for long rides though the mountains. He was extremely proud of his service to this country.
Don is survived by one son, David B. McCloskey of Fletcher, NC and one sister, Janice Hill and her husband, Thomas of Texas. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Jonathan McCloskey and his fiancé, Faith Roberts, and Nora-Lynn McCloskey.
Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth McCloskey.
A memorial visitation will be on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2-4pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 201 Spring St. Milesburg, PA. Graveside services with full military honors will be on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11am at Schencks Cemetery with Pastor Michael Covalt officiating.
