Donald Ray McCoy, Sr. joined the kingdom of Heaven on August 18, 2025, at the age of 71. Don, as he was known to his friends, was a member of Deliverance Temple in Brushfork, WV. Born January 11, 1954, in Iaeger, WV, Don grew up in Premier, WV, where he excelled as a baseball player. A hard-working man, Don dedicated 44 years as a coal miner.
Don is survived by his wife: Olene Carrie McCoy, his son, Donald Ray McCoy, Jr. and wife Tresha Ruest-McCoy, his siblings: Debbie Davis, Danny McCoy, and Donna "Sissy" Carter, stepchildren: Cristy, Marty, and Michael Atwell, and grandchildren: Nathan Vanhoozer, Cameron Corns, Hunter Atwell, and Destiney Atwell. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Lee McCoy and Lillian Inez (Bunn), stepfather: Printess Stanley, along with his brothers: John McCoy, Richard "Rook" McCoy, Gary "Girt" McCoy, and Printess "PJ" Stanley.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Deliverance Temple with Pastor David Kirby officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service, beginning at 1:00 PM, at Deliverance Temple.
