Lois Maxine Cox-Lawless, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at Bluestone Health. She was born on February 21, 1941, in Anawalt, West Virginia, where her roots lay deeply intertwined with the rolling hills and rich traditions of home.

Over the course of her life, Lois devoted 20 years to Hallmark Greeting Cards, where she brought joy to countless individuals through her work. Her creativity and dedication illuminated each project she undertook, reflecting her vibrant spirit and kind-hearted nature. An embodiment of warmth and hospitality, Lois was known for her welcoming demeanor, always inviting friends and family into her home with open arms and a ready smile.

As the matriarch of her family, she nurtured strong bonds, ensuring that love and togetherness flourished among her descendants. Lois held a special place in the hearts of her family, including her son Clovis Lawless and his wife Lisa of Beaver, West Virginia; her son-in-law Cy Gadd of Bluefield, West Virginia; her beloved sisters Violet Lawless of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Mary Valach of Princeton, West Virginia, and Helen Cox of Deland, Florida; as well as her remarkable legacy, which includes her nine grandchildren; Dustin, Christopher, Stormy, Mikie, Brennan and Camryn Lawless, Jessie and Cody Gadd, and Tesla Kelly, plus several great-grandchildren.

Though she has departed this earthly realm, Lois is reunited with her loving husband Phillip John Lawless, who predeceased her, as well as her parents Don and Velma Cox, her sons, Joe and Houston Lawless, daughter, Donna Gadd, and her siblings: Brothers Melvin, Clovis, Lakewood, Artie Cox, and Sister Brucella Cox. Each of these departed souls will now have the opportunity to embrace her once again in eternal peace.

The celebration of her life will take place at Cravens-Shires Funeral Homes in Bluefield, West Virginia. A visitation will be held on September 3, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor James Coe conducting the service. After the service Lois will be interred at Monte Vista Cemetery. Lois Maxine Cox-Lawless will be remembered as an extraordinary woman whose grace, kindness, and unwavering love left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed dearly but will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she so lovingly embraced. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is proud to serve the Lawless family.
