Donald (Don) Wayne Mingie, 76, of Lexington, passed away at 11:45AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, after a long illness, with his precious wife, Susan, by his side. Don was born on February 10, 1948 in Knoxville, TN. He is the son of Woodrow and Mary (O'Neal) Mingie. He and his family moved to Illinois and he attended Catholic School at Spalding Academy. After graduation, he joined the Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was a Crew Chief on a helicopter, 187th Crusaders. He then was stationed at Fort Jackson. He met his wife Susan (Cagle) in West Columbia and they were married for 53 ½ years. He worked as a Registered Nurse until he retired.
Don is survived by his wife, Susan; his son, Scott (Amanda) Mingie; his daughter, Summer (Nick) Koutrakos; his grandchildren, Mekayla Kaitlyn, Taylor and Joy, Jacob Barrier, Gracyn Barrier, Leo Koutrakos and Pano Koutrakos; his 2 sisters, Carol and Terri (Dennis) and their families.
A viewing and small service will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, starting at 9:00AM, Friday, October 4, 2024. A private graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Cagle, Nick Koutrakos, Trey Snelling, Artie Snelling, Andrew Snelling, Alex Snelling, Riley Harris and Jacob Barrier.
