REV. DONALD WAYNE MORGAN, son of the late Dock Washington Morgan and the late Maddie Mitchell Morgan, was born on April 5, 1952, in Wake County, NC. He is one of nine children of the Morgan household of which five: John Thomas, Sylvester, Mary Ruth, Alma Doris Brinkley Moore, and William Earl preceded him in death. He departed this life on April 3, 2025, at his residence in Council Bluffs, IA.
Like all of his siblings, Pastor Don joined Beavers Chapel United Church of Christ (now Beavers Chapel Christian Church) in Zebulon, NC at an early age. One of the most visible ways Don manifested his love of God was by showing compassion, love and care toward others. He had an ever-present tendency to open and share his residence with family members, at times of greatest need.
Don graduated from James E. Shepard High School in Zebulon, NC, and studied for ministry at Shaw Divinity School, Raleigh, NC, after completing Certificates Programs at ITC in Atlanta, and Lancaster Theological Seminary in PA. Through his ministry, in various settings, he touched the lives of many people. His ministry began at age 20, under Overseer, Minister Cora Smith of Miracle Center Church, Zebulon, NC. From there, at age 30, he moved on to serve in United Church of Christ (UCC) ministry settings for 45 years: New Bethel and Pleasant Union, Raleigh; Union Grove, Henderson; Small's Chapel, Arapahoe, all in NC. He pastored the Teche Area Ministries, New Iberia. LA. For several years he was Volunteer Coordinator at Back Bay Mission, Biloxi, MS and Executive Director, Franklinton Center at Bricks, NC. Don served as pastor of First Cong'l, Red Oak, IA; returned east to serve Warren Cong'l, Warren, CT; St. John Cong'l, Elkart, IN; Haydenville Cong'l, Haydenville, MA; and later returned to the Midwest to serve St. John's UCC, Council Bluffs, IA.
He was a devoted and loving father to his son, Kelvin Morgan of VA Beach, VA and a lifelong friend and companion to his spouse, Minister Bertha Stewart Morgan of Zebulon. Additionally, he leaves to cherish his memory, three brothers: Bishop George E. Morgan (Eva H.), N. Wilkesboro, NC, Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Morgan (Mae T.), Atlanta, GA, Ernest Lee Morgan, Lexington, NC; three sisters-in-law, Jeannette Morgan, Lena Pretty, and Doris Lewis; one aunt: Josephine Hill, Virginia Beach, VA; one uncle: Erby Lee Mitchell (Mildred), New York, NY; scores of nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial Service will be held, at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Beaver Chapel Christian Church, 701 Proctor Street, Zebulon, NC. The family will greet and welcome friends, at the church beginning at 12:00 Noon. A repast will be provided at Beavers Chapel Church after the services.
