Donald Perriello Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 18, 2024.
Donald J. Perriello, 89, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Eileen M. (Finnegan) Perriello. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Beningo and Marcella (Johnston) Perriello.
Donald was a graduate of North Providence High School and served in the US Army from 1957-1959 where he was stationed in Savannah, Georgia and then served in the Army Reserves for 4 years.
He was employed with the Providence Journal newspaper for 37 years. His knowledge of geography and talent for map drawing, granted him a job as a photo re-toucher and later as a graphic artist, providing maps all over the world as charts and graphs for the latest topics and news. He loved nature, being outdoors, planting a garden, and was superb at being able to navigate in the woods and was knowledgeable in so many plants, animals, and trees. Donald enjoyed fly fishing. He was a long-time member of the Smithfield Sportsman Club and taught the art of fly tying. Donald also loved building remote control airplanes which became another passionate hobby for him and created amazing aircrafts which he flew in various fields across the state.
Donald was an avid philatelist and started collecting stamps as early as 8 years old. Donald's collection of stamps ranged from volumes of many completed countries to just thousands of stamps he would collect from all over the world and just until recently, enjoyed going to the North Kingstown Senior Stamp Club.
Donald was a long and loyal NY Yankees and NY Giants fan.
Donald was a devoted husband and a loving, supportive father. His family meant everything to him, and he loved God, his family, and his country and considered himself a patriot. He was the devoted father of Joan DePari (Michael), Jeanmarie Gautieri (Steven), and Lynne Gelfuso (Thomas), and honorable father to Zita Mirabile. He was the loving grandfather of Katie Vitale (Anthony), Lucas Depari, and David Depari; great-grandfather of Valentina Rose Vitale. He is also survived by his brother David Perriello, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 8:30am from the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave., Rt44, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd., Johnston. Burial with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959, will be appreciated.
