Donald Alvin Pitts, 81, of Monticello passed away at 8:34 am on Friday, September 20, 2024 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital.
He was born on February 10, 1943 in Bell, CA to the late David and Vivian (Runo) Pitts. On January 10, 1989 he married the former Patricia “Patty” (Hughes) Burton in Montego Bay, Jamaica. She survives.
Don graduated from Oakdale High School in Oakdale, CA. He was a United States Army Viet Nam veteran who proudly and honorably served his country. He worked for General Motors in California and Oklahoma City from which he retired. Following retirement, he stocked shelves at Kroger at night and worked at Joseph Motors formerly of Monticello.He was a member of the United Auto Workers (UAW). He enjoyed electronics including collecting and repairing retro video game consoles. He enjoyed golf, reading and watching football, Westerns, NASCAR, and the news on television in his easy-chair.
In addition to his wife, Patty of Monticello, he is survived by his daughter, Zoe’ Buchan (husband, Bill) of California; bonus children, Samantha Leblanc of Austin, TX, Beth Solis (husband, Roger) of Monticello, Regina Rhodes (husband, Doug) of Illinois, Darrell Burton Jr. (wife, Diane) of Anderson, and David Wayne Burton (wife, Christie) of Monticello; identical twin brother, David Pitts of Carson City, Nevada; one grandchild; ten bonus grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Pitts; sister-in-law, Nancy Pitts; grandson, Dustin Rhodes; and bonus great grandson, Caleb Weaver.Funeral services celebrating Don’s life will be at 1 Pm, Friday, September 27, 2024 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Rev. Tim McQuinn officiating.
Friends may call 2 hours prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
