Donald J Potter, 86, of Marlette passed away Friday, December 6, 2024 at Covenant Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Don was born on April 28, 1938 in Sandusky, Michigan to the late James and Maxine (McCready) Potter. He was raised in Brown City but lived most of his life in Marlette. Don worked for Teen Ranch and Youth for Christ for 37 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a jeep driver in Korea during the time of the Korean Conflict. Don was a member of the VFW, Lions Club and Marlette First Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, Jesus and praying for whoever came through the door. Don was constantly reading, writing and studying scripture. He mentored many people throughout his life. Don volunteered at the school, the hospice residence, the church and many other places. He never sat still.
Don is survived by his "beautiful" wife, Sherryl; sons, Dale (Laurie) Potter and Daniel (Suzie) Potter; grandchildren, James (Carla) Potter, Daniyle (Dave) Weir, Caleb (Mary Ann Peterson) Potter, Sarah Eddy, Joshua (Saskia) Potter and Josiah (Laura) Potter; great grandchildren, GracieMae Weir, Lucy Weir, Dakota Potter, Jorah Potter, Rhys Potter, Miya Peterson, Starla Peterson and Eliana Peterson; brothers, James (Vera) Potter and Ronald (June) Potter; sister in law, Gayle Potter; and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maxine (McCready) Potter and his birth mother, Minnie (Bell) Potter; brothers, Harry (Helen) Potter, Ernest (Liz) Potter and Thomas Potter.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 2 PM at the Marlette First Church. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 PM until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund in care of Sherryl Potter.
