He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God: in Him will I trust.
Psalms 91:1-2
Donald Ray Scott was born on December 21, 1953, in Independence, Louisiana. He was the son of Sidney Andrew Scott and Inez Gray Scott. He peacefully departed this life on March 4, 2026.
Donald was united in holy matrimony to Gwendolyn Mitchell Scott on April 17, 1971. To this union, Natasha, Don, and Atoyia were born.
Donald was a native of Denham Springs, Louisiana and later moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1971, and thereafter attended Spencer Business College. Donald worked for BellSouth for 35 years, where he retired as a network manager.
Donald was very proud of his children and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed hanging out with his sister Susan at football games, playing with his children and grandchildren, gardening, and fishing. He was a “people” person who never met a stranger.
Donald was a devoted member of Midway Baptist Church where he began playing the organ at the young age of 13. He was an accomplished musician who played for numerous churches, including Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, Mount Hope Baptist Church, New Zion Baptist Church, St. Matthews Baptist Church, and Turner Chapel AME Church.
Donald leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 55 years, Gwendolyn Mitchell Scott of Baton Rouge, LA; his children, Natasha Scott Flowers (Jerry) of Prairieville, LA, Don Marcus Scott (Rachel) of Houston, TX, and Atoyia Scott Harris (Timothy) of Slidell, LA; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Donahue, Jarrell Flowers, Jarvis Flowers (Andrea), Dylan Scott, Noelle Scott, Tiana Harris and Tori Harris; and one great grandson, Jayson Flowers.
Donald also leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Jescina Crenshaw of Denham Springs, LA; six brothers, Billy Robertson and Robert Robertson (Wanda) of Baton Rouge, LA; James Jenkins (Betty), Joe Jenkins (Alice), Elder Willie Jenkins (Katie), and Floyd Jenkins (Janet) of Ruth, MS; four sisters, Susan Thornton (Clarence) of Baton Rouge, LA, Jescina Lockley (Arthur) of New Iberia, LA, Lisa Hayes of Denham Springs, LA, and Hazel Carr (Zeb) of Tylertown, TX; three goddaughters, Petula Clark Newby, Tamekia Marie Cooper, and Temeka Williams; two bonus sons, Michael Banks and Deon Ramsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sidney Andrew Scott and Inez Gray Scott, his brothers Willie Fortenberry, Bobby Robertson, and Joe Eddie Gray.
Viewing will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Living Faith Christian Center, 6375 Winborne Ave., Baton Rouge, La at 10 am until the religious service at 12 noon. Bishop Raymond W. Johnson will be officiating the service. Internment will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
