Stephen Grantham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Denham Springs on Jan. 9, 2026.
Steve passed away on January 6, 2026, following a brief illness. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on May 1, 1944, Steve grew up in Denham Springs and is a 1962 graduate of Denham Springs High School. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and received training and certification in aircraft maintenance. He completed four years, 1962-1966 of active duty, during which he worked as an aircraft electrician in California and overseas deployments. Steve retired in January 2017, following a 49- year career as an ironworker, and was a member of Local 623. He worked in operations and supervision of construction of numerous high-rise buildings, bridges, stadiums, and manufacturing plants in Louisiana and other states.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. He loved sharing his love of nature with his sons, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for 10 years. Steve used these opportunities to not only teach them about nature, but to teach them to love and appreciate the God who created these wonders. After becoming a Christian at age 29, he became an active member of his church. Over the years, Steve served as a deacon and taught Sunday School to youth, college, and children. His passion was teaching and defending the Word of God, always taking time to stress the love and character of God. His goal in teaching was to form relationships, pointing all toward Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Steve was a life-long patriot and loyal citizen of his country. He was a committed Christian who boldly shared his faith with people wherever he went until the end of his life. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by relatives, friends, and others privileged to have known him.

Grantham is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Diane Edwards Grantham, of Denham Springs, his sons Shawn Grantham of Denham Springs; Slade Grantham of New Orleans; and Daniel Grantham, married to Christina, of Prairieville; and step-son, Robert Rimes, married to Julie, of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren whom he cherished: Thomas Rimes, Lucy Rimes, Heidi Rimes, Lor Grantham, Cooper Grantham, and Caroline Grantham; three sisters, Sharon Grantham Levert, married to Thomas Levert of Denham Springs, Janice Grantham of Denham Springs, and Marsha Grantham Easley, married to Ken Easley of Walker; as well as numerous cousins, in-laws, and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Wesley Grantham, and his mother, Leona Morgan Grantham.

Pallbearers are Joe Morgan, Bill Blades, Robert Rimes, Thomas Rimes, Randy Smith, Danny Jones, Max Lightsey, David Edwards.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 7738 Florida Blvd. Denham Springs, LA 70726 on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at Community Bible Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Steve Foster will officiate with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Montpelier Cemetery.

Isn´t it nice to know you are loved?
Steve did that for me and so many others. I love how he would tell everyone, I have know Helen since she was a teenager. You don´t know someone that long and not have many happy memories. Thankful for each one of them. Will miss him greatly!

Dear Diane and family, I am so sorry to hear of Steve´s passing. He was a godly man, a man´s man, and a very kind and compassionate man. Chris and I were so blessed by your generosity by allowing us to live in your home while Steve´s work took you to another state for an extended time. This was a wonderful blessing to a young couple in seminary. I know Steve is in the presence of Jesus and has already heard the words "well done". His testimony and legacy are encouraging reminders of the gospel of grace.
