Donald Walter "Peppy" Sleger, 95, of Meadow View Assisted Living passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc.
Don was born on January 18, 1930 in Green Bay, son of the late Martin and Clara (Miller) Sleger. He attended schools in Two Rivers and graduated with the class of 1948 of Washington High School. Don served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On May 16, 1953, he married Ruth Wachowski at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2020. Don was employed with JC Penney for 44 years until his retirement in 1992.
Don was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Men of St. Peter's, and past president of Western Fraternal Life. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, dart ball, cards, fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Don is survived by six children: Laurie (Pat) Cisler, Two Rivers, Linda (Joseph) Schepper, Two Rivers, Lee (Sharon) Sleger, Two Rivers, Larry (Kirsten) Sleger, Two Rivers, Lenny (Margie) Sleger, Appleton, and Luanne (Ken) Koon, Waunakee; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Gerald Biel, Two Rivers; and one sister-in-law: Darlene Kalista, Manitowoc. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Clara Sleger; wife: Ruth Sleger; one brother: Martin Sleger Jr.; one sister: Delores Biel; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Theodore and Josephine Wachowski; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lester "Jimmy" Wachowski, Elaine (Albert "Butch") Schultz, Dolores (Orlis) Larson, Helen (Elmer "Butch") Heinrichs Jr., and Eugene "Yatch" Kalista.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Road, with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 9:00 am until the time of mass at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Two Rivers, Military honors will be performed by the VFW Post 1248 American Legion 165 Honor Guard Two Rivers.
