Donald Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Malloy & Son Funeral Home - Galveston on Jun. 14, 2024.
Donald Scott Smith, known affectionately as Scott to his friends and family, passed away on June 11, 2024, in Texas City, TX, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Born on August 2, 1939, in Kerrville, TX, Scott's life was marked by dedication, service, and a warm, engaging spirit.
Scott's life was spent along the Gulf Coast of Texas, where he attended La Marque High School and graduated with the class of 1958. His sense of duty and patriotism led him to join the Army, serving from 1958 to 1962. Stationed in El Paso, Texas, he worked as a draftsman, supporting missile units and creating training aids that were crucial to the success of his team.
After his military service, Scott first worked for his father-in-law as a service representative for the Pontiac/Buick dealership. He then embarked on a lifelong career with Houston Lighting & Power, starting as a meter reader and demonstrating a work ethic that saw him rise through the ranks to become a contract administrator. His 44 years of dedication to the company were a testament to his reliability and commitment to excellence.
Scott is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughter, Nickie Smith Leasure, and her husband, Phil; granddaughter, Skyler; brothers, Lewis Smith and his wife, Peggy, and Larry Smith and his wife, Libby; as well as Josephine's children, Douglas, Cathy, and Pam.
A man of many interests, Scott was an avid NASCAR fan and could often be found cheering on his favorite drivers or indulging in his love for camping. His hands were rarely still, as he enjoyed building and collecting model cars, trucks, and planes. His membership in the car club "The Spinners" allowed him to share this passion with like-minded enthusiasts.
Scott had a lifelong love of western movies, especially those starring John Wayne. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he was a devoted member of the Episcopalian community, serving in various capacities at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in La Marque.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1601 Lake Road, La Marque, TX 77568 on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 2 pm. Scott wishes were to be interred at Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
