Donald F. Smith, 83, of Lancaster, PA died Friday, December 26th, at the Homestead Village Nursing Home. He was the loving husband of Sheila L. Banigan-Smith.

Born in Boston, MA, a son of the late Frazer T. and Dorothea (MacKenzie) Smith, he had been a resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, since 2023. He had previously resided in Palm City, Florida, Madison, Connecticut, and North Conway, New Hampshire.

Donald opened the first Dunkin Donuts franchise in North Conway, New Hampshire. Later, Donald worked as an independent dental equipment salesman for Tuttanauer, Gendex, and Progeny Dental for many years before retiring.

Mr. Smith was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid skier and enjoyed spending time on Block Island with his family and friends. Donald was generous, kind, and loving. Donald had a gift for making people laugh and will be remembered fondly for his unique sense of humor.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Christopher P. Smith and partner Paula of Raynham, MA and a daughter, Susan T. Smith of Portland, CT, a stepson, Joseph S. Lyman and wife Cheryl of Lucedale, MS, a stepson, John F. Lyman and wife Stacy of Manheim, PA, a brother, Daniel Smith and wife Candace of South Thomaston, ME, and a sister, Elizabeth C. Sarra of Coventry, RI. He was the husband of the late Mary Lou (Kelley) Smith and father of the late Kelli E. Smith.

Funeral services will be on Friday, January 2nd at 10 AM in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Calling Hours Thursday, January 1st 2-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations, Donations in Donald's memory to Connecticut Hospice-Branford 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford CT 06405; Hospice & Community Care-Lancaster 685 Good Drive Lancaster, PA 17601, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org will be appreciated.
