Don Walzer passed away on 19 February at his home in Lady Lake, Florida.
Don was born in Syracuse, NY to Donald and Ethel Walzer and grew up in Gates, NY where he graduated from Gates-Chili High School in the school's first graduating class. Upon completing his bachelor's degree at SUNY Brockport, he married Norene Nichols, also from Rochester and Gates-Chili High School, and they raised three children in Spencerport, NY.
Don was a proud community servant and leader with a career in education as a high school teacher beginning at Greece Olympia where he coached football, wrestling and track & field. He continued his career at Greece Athena while earning his Masters Degree in Administration and eventually retiring as Athletic Director and Vice Principal. Outside of school, Don volunteered for many years as a little league coach and scout leader. He also served as a town councilman in Ogden, New York for several years before becoming the town's Supervisor from 1987-1997 where he was a driving force in the development of the new (and current) Town Hall facility and Pineway Ponds Park.
His passions included his family, his Greece Olympia football teams, raising and showing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as well as being a life-long fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. Don was also a member of Kiwanis, Etolian Masonic Lodge-Spencerport, Rochester Consistory- Ancient Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Shriners Hospital International, and past-president of two Florida Cavalier King Charles clubs and a member of a third, Cavaliers of the South.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Norene, his three sons and daughters-in-law Don Jr. and Darlene, Eric and Keli, and Larry and Lynn as well as eight grandchildren Andrew, Joe, Jessica, Jenna, Ryan, Jack, Libby and Zava and one great-grandson, Nicholas.
A celebration of Don's life will be held in Spencerport, NY in June. Details to follow.

Don was a happy guy who loved Cavaliers. He was very supportive of the sport and positive of newcomers. His life was one of coaching and service to others. God bless his soul. Prayers and support to his Dear Wife, Norene and his family & many friends. It was my privilege to know Don.

So sadden by Don's passing. He was a great great man and he will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. I found him to be a true gentleman with an open heart and mind. He was a great mediator and motivator.

Norene, I was so saddened to learn of Don´s passing. Don was a contributor in so many ways to our MidFl Cavalier club. We will all miss our good friend and his insights about our Cavalier spaniels. Take care Norene, and have faith that Don will always be with you in spirit, for life is everlasting.
Best wishes,
Beverly Manley

Our condolences to Norene & the Walzer family. We have fond memories of working with Don on Republican Party issues (remember the 1995 primary?) and many Town of Ogden events. Don was always leading whatever we were advancing. He is one of the leaders of 20th century Ogden.
