Donald Leroy Whiteley

Our loving father Donald Leroy Whiteley, 91, passed away on November 23, 2023 with his loved ones surrounding him.

 

Don was born in Liberty, Utah on April 27, 1932, to John S. and Violet R. Whiteley. He graduated from Weber High School in 1950. In June 1952 he was drafted into the army and was sent to Korea for the war. He was a mess sergeant and fed up to 2000 soldiers a day and loved every minute of it. He returned in May of 1954, reconnected with his love Pamela E. Shulz and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27, 1955.

 

Don went from milking cows as a boy to delivering milk for Cream O’ Weber Dairy until 1971 when he started working for a friend at Staco Distributing selling Olympic stain and PeachTree doors and windows. He retired from Trimco in 1997.

 

Soon after Don and Pam were married, they bought a home in Sunset, Utah, where they had five children and many friends. When Dad was 34, he was called to be the Bishop of the Sunset Third Ward. He always spoke fondly of serving as Bishop with his wonderful counselors.

 

Later Don and Pam moved to Farmington where Dad loved to ride motorcycles in the mountains with his kids. Some of Dad‘s favorite activities were water skiing, fishing and camping with the family.

 

Mom and Dad had 49 wonderful years together until Mom passed too soon in 2004. Four years later Dad married LaRae Day. They enjoyed fifteen years together traveling, spending time with family, and volunteering at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

 

After LaRae‘s passing, Dad went to live at The Beaumont Care Center, where he loved all those who cared for him and they loved him too. We can’t thank them enough for the kind and loving care they gave Dad the past few months of his life.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pamela and his second wife, LaRae, his parents and his four siblings, Lawrence, Harold, Cecil, and Melvin.

 

Survived by his children, Melanie Shropshire (Mike), Brenda Childs (Scott), Darren Whiteley (Sam Maddox), Gaylen Whiteley (Angie), and Heather Singley (Tyler); 13 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren; and also his stepchildren, Zane Day (Debbie), Debbie Boyce (Mark), Jeff Day (Ranae), RaeDell Day, Kelly Day, and Crystal Cook (John); 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden Utah.
