Donald Lee Wilder, age 75, the husband of Glenda Welch Wilder, was born November 30, 1948 in Shawanee, Tennessee to John William Wilder and Lizzie Wilder. He was saved at an early age, and was a hard working and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his Lord and Savior, as a member of Red Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years, he served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught men's Sunday School class, deacon, and chairman of the deacons.
He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in 1970. He taught his first four years at Ellen Myers Elementary School before moving to H.Y. Livesay Middle School in 1974 as a fifth-grade teacher. He became principal of H.Y. Livesay Middle School in 1983 until he retired in 2000. He and his son, Michael Wilder, had a mowing business for a number of years.
Donald was a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather. He loved his Savior, church, pastor, and all fellow members.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Wilder; mother, Lizzie Wilder; wife of 49 years, Glenda Wilder, brothers, Oscar Wilder and Paul Wilder, sister-in-law Mary Ann Bolton Wilder, also aunt-in-law, Jeanette Welch, father-in-law Warren Gene Welch and mother-in-law Juanita West Welch.
He is survived by his children, Melissa Angela (George) Brock and Michael Sheldon Wilder, grandchildren, Allyson Elizabeth Brock, Cooper David Brock, all of Harrogate, Tennessee, and Colson Alexander Keller of Tazewell, Tennessee, brother Lonnie (Helen) Wilder of Middlesboro, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Melvin Welch; sisters-in-law Louise (Reverand Bruce) Woodruff, all of Speedwell. Tennessee; Rebecca Bush of Sneedville, Tennessee, and Christine (Gary) Wallen of Tazewell, Tennessee; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all his fellow church members.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Green Hills Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, November 8, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Mundy presiding.
Graveside Services will be held at the Scott Cemetery in Harrogate, Tennessee on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave Green Hills Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Arnold, Jody Beeler, George Brock, Terry Evans, Kelly Seals, Jimmy Welch, and Jackie West. Honorary Pallbearers are David Evans, Lowell Evans, George Dyer, Jay Dyer Larry Robertson, and Lonnie Wilder.
The Wilder family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all who have reached out to us during our time of bereavement in any way. A special thank you to his caregiver Sherry Moyers and Amedisys Home Health and Hospice. We thank you for all the flowers, food, and expressions of sympathy during the loss of our loved one.
