Donald Alexander Williams, also known as Pops, was born on March 1st, 1945, in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to parents Louise Jackson and Staford Williams. The 2nd of 14 children, Donald was a natural born leader. He attended Bogue All Age School in St. Elizabeth, where he graduated in 1968. Eager to join the workforce, that same year he conducted his apprenticeship at Summers Electric Trade School in Mandeville, Jamaica. Starting on January 4th, 1971, Donald devoted years to working at 'ALPART' - Alumina Partners of Jamaica. This is where his nickname 'Pops' originated; he was always helping the workers of ALPART, from the inexperienced to the experienced. He was looked at as a mentor & excelled in his craft.
After falling in love with Lolaline Huie, the two wed on December 29th, 1979. Determined to provide a better life for his family, Donald migrated to New York, United States in August of 1980. Unfond of the cold, Donald relocated to Florida in January of 1981, where his wife Lola would join him. Donald's sons Vaughn and Ashman would arrive to the states in July of 1984. Lolas' daughters Andreane (Donnette) & Marciel (Kurl) arrived months later, and they became one big family. Donald's youngest son, Dave, came years later.
Continuing his profession as an electrician, Donald held multiple jobs throughout the years. He started out at Sir Electric, where he was a lead man. During this time, Donald attended evening classes at Broward Community College's middle campus in pursuit of his 'Journeyman License'. Thereafter, he worked at Clear View Electric, followed by HCR-ManorCare from 1991-2005,where he was a maintenance supervisor. His talents were recognized at Jag Electric where he worked as a supervisor prior to retiring in 2008.
Donald was an avid member of his church, Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, where was ordained as a Deacon. Donald was the first male Usher at Bethel, a choir member and the first Brotherhood President. He was also ordained as an Evangelist at Faith United Church. His favorite pastimes were watching wresting and the news (CNN). Donald was a helpful soul; he never turned his back on a friend. Donald would go out of his way to provide what he could for his family back in Jamaica. All who knew him remember him as kind, loving, friendly & funny.
