Don was born December 19,1938 in Oak Park, IL, to his parents Frank and Frieda (Goehmann) Wood. He grew up in Riverside IL. and loved hearing the roars at his home of the lions at the nearby zoo. He graduated from Riverside-Brookfield Township High School class of 1956. He met the love of his life Darlene in 1959, married February 27,1960 and together had 4 children. They enjoyed their marriage for 59 years until Dar went to heaven in 2019. Don was an easy going, uncomplicated, kind, smart, creative, tender hearted loving man, husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. He asked the Lord into his heart in 1977 and was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church-Joliet. He also served there as a board member, sang in the choir and enjoyed being in the musicals. He and Darlene loved and mentored many teens as youth group leaders. Don was a laborer for Local 96 retiring after 25+ years and had a strong work ethic and worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He loved all things nature bringing him peace and joy and closer to God. Don loved gardening, fishing, walking his dog Cuddles, and visiting his friends in Shorewood who he loved and appreciated as well as his buddies up North at his 2nd home in Minocqua, WI. Don enjoyed having bon fires and potlucks and fun times. He loved puzzle books, sudoku, and working puzzles. He was very active doing yard work, mowing grass and driving all over up until a few months ago. Don knew no strangers, and everyone just loved him. He had a huge sense of humor and loved laughing and had the ability to adjust to any situation. Don genuinely loved Jesus, life and people. There is a void in the hearts and lives of his family that can never be filled until the day we are all together again. John 3:16
